Bermudian junior tennis prospects Lee Terceira, Tristan Thompson, and Rylie Maybury produced a string of eye-catching performances during a fruitful qualifying campaign for the US Playoff Series Junior Orange Bowl Master Event in Miami.
Terceira spearheaded the Bermudian charge with a dominant run through the main draw. Delivering a series of composed displays, she powered her way into the semi-finals to punch her ticket to next weekend’s prestigious Masters Qualifier.
Thompson and Maybury also gained valuable international test time on the Florida hardcourts. Thompson pushed the tournament’s number three seed to the brink in a spirited first-round duel before succumbing to a narrow 2-6, 5-7 defeat, while Maybury also bowed out following a fiercely contested opening encounter.
Their resilience came to the fore in the consolation draw, where both players battled through the bracket to set up an all-Bermudian final.
The showpiece match proved to be a thrilling, high-stakes affair. Thompson demonstrated nerves of steel under intense pressure, saving match point before clinching a dramatic 7-5 victory in a deciding-set tie-break.
The Bermudian contingent will extend their stay in Florida for several days of intensive training, sharpening their game and gaining critical international experience as they continue their development.
