In the second match of a demanding four-game road trip, the Blues reinforced their status as the benchmark in Ontario University Athletics (OUA), controlling proceedings in Kingston on Friday night to move to 4-0-1 on the season and maintain their grip on top spot in the standings.
While the narrow scoreline suggested a tight contest, Toronto dictated the encounter from the outset. The visitors pinned the Gaels deep inside their own half, generating 11 penalty corners and testing the Queen's backline with five shots on target.
The decisive breakthrough arrived five minutes from full-time. In the 55th minute, first-year forward Olivia Thompson struck to break the deadlock, registering her second goal of the campaign after scoring in successive fixtures.
Cardwell and the Toronto defensive unit were virtually untroubled throughout the 60 minutes, delivering an uncompromising performance that restricted the hosts to just a single penalty corner and one shot on goal to comfortably see out the clean sheet.
