Lauren Cardwell and her University of Toronto Varsity Blues team-mates produced a devastating fourth-quarter surge to claim a commanding 4-0 road victory over the Western Mustangs in London.
The shutout triumph maintains Toronto’s unbeaten start to the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) campaign, lifting them to 3-0-1 and cementing their position at the summit of the standings.
Despite the lopsided final scoreline, the contest remained in the balance for the opening 50 minutes before the visitors blew the game wide open with three goals in the closing frame.

Fourth-year forward Ava Airnes broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time, neatly converting from a penalty corner in the 30th minute to give the Blues a slender lead at the break.
Western continued to battle gamely into the final quarter, but Toronto’s relentless pressure eventually told in the 51st minute when fourth-year midfielder Alicia Lung doubled the cushion with another well-worked penalty corner finish.
The floodgates opened, and just two minutes later Olivia Thompson marked a personal milestone by firing home her first career OUA goal in Varsity Blue colours to stretch the lead to three.
Lung applied the finishing touches with the final action of the match, bagging her second of the afternoon in the 60th minute to cap an emphatic road performance.
At the other end of the pitch, second-year goalkeeper Mary Yang enjoyed another untroubled afternoon to secure the clean sheet. The Canada international has been an immovable object between the posts this term, ensuring Toronto remain the only side in the OUA yet to concede a goal through their opening four matches.
