Bermuda national cricket coach Calvin Waldron says his squad are fully committed to their ultimate target of World Cup qualification as they ramp up preparations for this weekend’s ICC Americas Regional Tournament.
The national training program has officially resumed following the conclusion of the Bermuda SMASH Invitational, which saw the island's top domestic talent showcasing their skills in the shortest format of the game.
With international duty now taking center stage, Waldron is eager to see his players carry their explosive domestic form onto the regional platform.
The recently concluded T20 tournament provided the perfect competitive launchpad for the national selectors, offering a sharp reminder of the depth available on the island.
"Looking forward, we want the players to play an attractive and entertaining style of T20 cricket on the heels of the SMASH," Waldron told islandstats.com.
"There were some performances highly worthy of note during the tournament, and it would be fantastic to see those players continue showcasing their skill sets on the international stage. The players have been completely committed to the process and the massive goal that lies ahead of us."
The upcoming regional group stage represents the first major hurdle in a long qualification cycle, with Bermuda looking to progress through the Americas bracket to book a spot in the global qualifiers.
The tournament will serve up a mix of familiar rivalries alongside a few less-frequent opponents, requiring sharp tactical flexibility from the coaching staff.
"We are looking to advance from this group round and continue onward into the later qualifying stages," Waldron added. "Our sights are set on the ultimate goal of playing in the next World Cup.
"We will face some familiar faces among the opposition teams as well as some new ones. We will get our game plans and individual targets sorted to ensure we successfully enact our objectives this weekend."
