Deloitte Open Continues at Pomander Gate

IslandStats.com
A day of high stakes and clinical execution unfolded on the clay courts of the Pomander Gate Tennis Club as the 2026 Deloitte Open neared its thrilling climax.

The tournament, which has battled back superbly after early-week weather disruptions, witnessed a historic crowning in the masters division alongside a masterclass performance in the men’s premier flight.

Shonette Wilson is the 2026 Deloitte Open Over-45 champion after delivering a flawless tactical performance to dispatch Sameera Hasan in straight sets.

From the opening baseline exchanges, Wilson looked completely at home on the heavy Pomander Gate surface. Utilizing a devastating combination of deep, looping groundstrokes and sharp angles, she quickly broke Hasan's service rhythm to cruise through the opening set 6-1.

Hasan fought valiantly to find a foothold in the second frame, but Wilson refused to give an inch. Forcing a series of unforced errors from the baseline, the newly crowned champion completed a spectacular second-set shutout to wrap up the match 6-0 and secure the title in style.

In the marquee match of the afternoon, Bermuda Davis Cup star Tariq Simons booked his spot in the Men's Singles 'A' Final with a professional straight-sets victory over a determined Evan Heyliger.

Simons, looking to assert his dominance early, broke Heyliger twice in the opening set. Displaying the explosive court coverage and powerful first serves that have made him a mainstay of the national setup, the top seed took the opener 6-2 with minimal fuss.

Heyliger raised his game significantly in the second set, forcing Simons into extended rallies and showcasing spectacular defensive resilience. However, at 4-4, Simons turned up the pressure, striking a brilliant running forehand winner to secure the decisive break. He comfortably served out the subsequent game to finish 6-4, keeping his quest for another Deloitte Open title firmly on track.
