Bermudian middle-distance runner Nazir Johnson secured a highly commendable top-twelve finish in a stellar field at the inaugural Southeast Meet of Champions in Jacksonville, Florida.
Competing at the Jax Track at Hodges Stadium on the University of North Florida campus, Johnson faced off against some of the premier high school athletic talent from across the region in the Men's High School 800 Meters.
Running a mature and strategic two-lap race, Johnson fought hard through the tight opening bend to position himself well within the chasing pack. As the pace intensified on the back straight of the final lap, he dug deep to cross the line in a blistering time of 2:02.17.
The stellar performance secured twelfth place overall and also marked a significant personal best for the rising star, shaving seconds off his previous benchmark.
The fast-paced final on the North Florida track provided an elite testing ground for Johnson, with the field pushing a relentless tempo from the gun.
While he missed out on a podium spot in the final standings, the trip to Jacksonville represents another progressive step forward on the international stage for the athlete, setting a highly encouraging foundation for the remainder of his outdoor season.
