Bermuda 12 Atlantic Privateers 69
Bermuda's bruising rugby campaign ended in further disappointment as they were blown away by a ruthless Atlantic Privateers side at the Flora Duffy South Field Stadium.
Looking to salvage some pride in the final match of the Bermuda Triangle Series, the hosts were instead subjected to another punishing afternoon, conceding more than 50 points for the third consecutive fixture in a definitive 69-12 rout.
The Privateers asserted their dominance early on, silencing the National Sports Center crowd with a relentless display of power and pace that yielded 22 unanswered points in the opening exchanges.
Bermuda briefly halted the onslaught courtesy of a brilliant piece of individual opportunism from Jamie Baum. The utility back picked the pocket of a Privateers defender inside his own half, chipped the ball over the oncoming cover, and won the footrace to the line to ground the ball. A successful conversion cut the deficit to 15 points and offered a glimmer of hope for the home support.
Any hopes of a sustained fightback were quickly extinguished, however, as the visitors clicked back into gear. The Privateers ran in another 21 points without reply to re-establish total control of the contest.
Bermuda did manage a second breakthrough before the interval when Miles Dismont Robinson showed great strength to barge over the line. The missed conversion left the scoreline reading a daunting 41-12 at the break.
The second half proved to be a processional affair. The Privateers choked any remaining life out of the game, dominating territory and possession to cross the line for another 28 unanswered points.
It was a clinical exhibition from the touring side, leaving the crestfallen hosts with plenty of searching questions ahead of their next international cycle.
