Tonbridge AC standout Jake Brislane delivered a career-best performance on the national stage this weekend, claiming a superb third-place finish at the BUCS Athletics Outdoor Championships.
Competing in the highly competitive Under-23 5,000-metre event, Brislane arrived at the championships representing Tonbridge AC with an eye on the podium. In a race defined by tactical discipline and a searing final kick, the young distance specialist stopped the clock in a blistering 14:19.62.
The time represents both a new Season’s Best and a significant Personal Best, lopping seconds off his previous mark and underlining his current trajectory as one of the rising stars of the British distance circuit.
The race stayed bunched through the opening three kilometres before the pace intensified at the front of the pack. Brislane showed remarkable composure to stay with the leaders as the field began to fracture under the pressure of the final laps.
While the race for gold and silver came down to a sprint finish, Brislane held his nerve to clear the rest of the chasing group, securing the bronze medal in what is widely considered the premier event for university-aged athletes in the UK.
The result marks another milestone for the Tonbridge athlete, who continues to establish himself as a force to be reckoned with on both the track and the cross-country scene. Following this performance, Brislane is expected to climb the national rankings as the outdoor season moves into its busiest period.
