Bermudian sprinter Cameron Basden showcased his blistering pace against some of Florida’s finest collegiate talent at the 2026 Sunshine State Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Competing at the Embry-Riddle Track in Daytona Beach, the Barry University standout featured prominently in the sprint preliminaries, though his weekend would ultimately end prematurely before the final blocks were set.
Basden made an immediate impact in the Men’s 100 Meters preliminaries. Blasting out of the blocks in a highly competitive heat, the Bermudian crossed the line in 10.76 seconds to secure a sixth-place finish.
The time was enough to signal Basden’s intent among the conference's elite speedsters. However, despite the strong showing in the morning session, Basden did not take his place in the starting blocks for the final, ending his charge for a podium spot in the blue-riband event.
The 100m was not Basden's only appearance of the weekend. He returned to the track for the Men’s 200 Meters preliminaries, navigating the curve with his trademark power.
Clocking a solid time of 21.74 seconds, Basden secured ninth place overall. While narrowly missing out on the final qualification spots, the performance underscored his consistency over the longer sprint distance as the collegiate outdoor season enters its most critical phase.
For Basden, the weekend serves as a vital benchmark. Competing in the high-intensity environment of the Sunshine State Conference provides the perfect preparation as he looks to sharpen his times ahead of a busy summer schedule.
With sub-11 and sub-22 second performances now firmly under his belt this season, the Barry University junior remains a key figure to watch in the Bermudian sprint contingent currently competing stateside.
