The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) Women’s Track and Field team made their mark at the prestigious Penn Relays this week, taking on a formidable field in front of the vocal Philadelphia crowds.
Among the Retrievers making the trip to Franklin Field was Bermudian sprinter Madisyn Bobb, who formed a key part of the squad’s relay efforts in the College Women's 4x200 Championship of America.
Taking the baton for the crucial third leg, Bobb combined with teammates Jayda Solomon, Miyana Johnson, and Winter Evans to navigate the demanding two-lap sprint. In a race defined by high-intensity transitions and a field packed with elite NCAA programs, the UMBC quartet crossed the line in 1 minute 39.64 seconds.
The result secured a 19th-place finish overall, providing another valuable chapter of experience for the young squad on one of the most iconic stages in world athletics. For Bobb, the performance follows a string of strong individual showings this season, further cementing her role as a reliable presence in the Retrievers’ relay ranks.
As the Penn Relays continues to act as a proving ground for the sport's rising stars, UMBC’s appearance in the Championship of America highlights the program’s growing ambitions on the regional circuit.
