Kaden Hopkins secured a superb ninth-place finish in the Men’s Elite Road Race at the Pan-American Continental Championships, narrowly missing out on a podium spot in a frantic bunch sprint.
Competing over a gruelling 197.6km course, Hopkins remained in the thick of the lead group throughout the day. He crossed the line with the same official time as the gold medallist, Jason Huertas of Costa Rica, in a finish that saw the continental elite separated by mere inches.
The result marks another significant milestone for Hopkins, who continues to establish himself as one of the region's most formidable competitors on the international stage.
Compatriot Nicholas Narraway also delivered a resilient performance in a high-calibre field. Narraway finished 56th overall, crossing the line just one second behind the leading pack in a testament to the competitive nature of the race.
The performance of the Bermudian pair highlights the island's growing pedigree in elite cycling, with both riders featuring prominently in a race defined by tactical patience and a high-speed conclusion. Huertas took the victory for Costa Rica, but the consistency of Hopkins ensures Bermuda remains a key player in Pan-American road racing.
