Furbert Flies to Long Jump Gold as Pacers Impress in Maryland

IslandStats.com
The Bermuda Pacers Track Club have made an explosive start to their campaign at the PVA 14 & Under National Age-Group Invitational in Landover, Maryland. Competing at the world-class Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex, the young Bermudian contingent delivered a series of standout performances on the opening day of action, highlighted by a golden display in the field.

The star of the session was undoubtedly Skye Furbert, who claimed victory in the 9-10 Division Girls Long Jump. Furbert produced a commanding leap of 3.57 metres to secure first place, outclassing a deep field of international talent. Her success was bolstered by teammate Diamond Morris, who secured a respectable fifth-place finish in the same event with a jump of 3.24 metres, ensuring two Bermudians finished in the top five of the age group.

Furbert's dominance was not limited to the sandpit. In the 9-10 Division Girls 200m preliminaries, she showcased her sprinting prowess by clocking a time of 31.87 seconds. The performance was enough to rank her ninth overall and, more importantly, secure a place in the upcoming finals. Giselle Reid-Rubaine also represented the Pacers with grit in the same heats, finishing 19th with a time of 32.47 seconds in what was a highly competitive field.

In the 13-14 Division, the Pacers continued to find success in the field through Amaya Davis. Competing in the Girls Long Jump, Davis delivered a powerful leap of 4.60 metres to finish fourth overall, narrowly missing out on a podium spot. Her busy day continued on the track, where she led the Bermudian trio in the 200m preliminaries, finishing 33rd with a time of 28.22 seconds.

Teammates Mylah Desilva and Ava St Luce rounded out the 13-14 sprint contingent, finishing 39th and 73rd respectively in a massive field of over eighty competitors. While the sprint heats were a test of speed against some of the region's fastest juniors, the results reinforce the Pacers' reputation for producing well-rounded athletes capable of competing on the North American stage.

As the invitational continues throughout the weekend, the focus now shifts to the finals. With Furbert already clutching a gold medal and preparing for her sprint final, and the rest of the squad gaining valuable international experience, the Pacers remain one of the most exciting young delegations in Landover.
