PREMIER DIVISION
Young Men Social Club 4 Devonshire Cougars 1
Young Men’s Social Club breathed significant life into their Premier Division survival bid, securing a comprehensive 4-1 victory over Devonshire Cougars at the Police Field.
On a day where the fixture list was decimated by severe weather, the Blue-and-Whites capitalised on one of the few games to survive the storm, moving off the foot of the table and within touching distance of safety.
Social Club’s intent was clear from the opening whistle, and they seized the lead after just 16 minutes through a clinical strike from Ryan Parris. The momentum stayed firmly with the hosts as Josh Hardtman doubled the advantage seven minutes later, allowing Social Club to retreat to the interval with a commanding two-goal cushion.
The second half became the Zeiko Lewis show. The Bermudian international extended the lead to 3-0 in the 60th minute before effectively ending the contest as a spectacle just seven minutes later with his second of the afternoon. While Mosias Mills pulled a late consolation back for the Cougars in the 88th minute, the damage was already done. The result sees Social Club move onto 10 points, leapfrogging Boulevard Blazers in the fight to avoid the drop.
Elsewhere, the Bermuda Football Association (BFA) was forced into a massive reshuffle as a severe Gale Warning brought the sporting calendar to a virtual standstill. With gusts reaching storm force and relentless blustery showers, officials prioritised player safety, deeming several key venues across the island unplayable.
The Premier Division title race was put on ice at Wellington Oval, where the high-stakes clash between St. George’s Colts and Devonshire Colts was among the casualties. Similarly, the Dandy Town Hornets missed their opportunity to close the gap at the summit after their meeting with Paget Lions at White Hill Field was called off due to the treacherous conditions.
The disruption extended to the First Division, where promotion contenders Somerset Trojans and Southampton Rangers saw their showdown postponed, alongside the scheduled fixture between Vasco and Somerset Eagles.
