Kamau Leverock is set to rub shoulders with some of cricket’s greatest icons as the inaugural World Legends Pro League T20 prepares to get underway in India.
The tournament, which begins on January 26th, will see a host of retired internationals descend on Goa for a ten-day festival of cricket at the newly inaugurated 1919 Sportz Cricket Stadium.
Leverock, who has become a sought-after asset on the global legends circuit, will represent the Pune Panthers. The Bermudian all-rounder joins an illustrious squad captained by West Indian powerhouse Kieron Pollard and featuring legendary names such as Dwayne Bravo and Sri Lankan top-order batsman Upul Tharanga.
The Panthers open their campaign on January 27th against the Gurugram Thunders, providing Leverock with an immediate opportunity to showcase his explosive power at the top of the order alongside his medium-fast bowling.
The tournament format leaves little room for error, with the Panthers facing a congested fixture list in their bid for a semi-final berth. Following their opener, they return to the crease on January 28th to take on the Delhi Warriors before earning a solitary day of rest on January 29th.
The action resumes on January 30th as Leverock and his teammates face the Rajasthan Lions, followed by a back-to-back encounter against the Dubai Royals on January 31st. The Panthers will conclude their round-robin stage on February 1st with a crucial clash against the Maharashtra Thunders.
The top four teams from the league stage will advance to the knockout rounds, with the semi-finals scheduled for February 3rd. The first-placed team will face the fourth-placed side, while second and third will battle for the remaining spot in the showpiece event.
The tournament will reach its climax on February 4th, with the final set to crown the first-ever champions of the Legends Pro T20 League. For Leverock, the experience of competing in such high-profile company serves as vital preparation ahead of his return to the Bermuda national team setup for the upcoming World Cup qualifying cycle.
