Clubs Celebrate Players Head Off for World Cup Qualifiers

IslandStats.com
Four prominent international clubs are celebrating the selection of their Bermudian stars to the Senior Women's squad as they prepare to launch their 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup Qualifying campaign this month.

The Bermuda Football Association's announcement of the squad has been met with warm wishes from AFC Bournemouth, Fort Lauderdale United FC, Sutton United Ladies, and AFC Sudbury, all of whom will release key players for the two crucial away fixtures.

AFC Bournemouth is cheering on forward Kenni Thompson, who has been called up for the opening two Concacaf qualifiers. Thompson, who is part of a 22-strong player group, will face the Cayman Islands on November 27th and Guatemala on December 1st—the latter being her 25th birthday.

Thompson has already etched her name in Cherries' history, becoming the first women’s player to earn international honours while on the club’s books. Her selection follows previous appearances for Bermuda, including two games against Belize in July 2024 and her debut against the Dominican Republic before signing for Bournemouth in December 2023.

Across the leagues, AFC Sudbury Women congratulated their captain, Eva Frazzoni, on her call-up to represent Bermuda in the upcoming Concacaf Qualifiers. Frazzoni's leadership and experience will be vital for the Gombey Warriors in the challenging opening fixtures.

Stateside, Fort Lauderdale United FC announced that three of their players have earned international call-ups for the FIFA window, including forward Nia Christopher.
Christopher has been named to Bermuda’s squad for the qualifying matches against the Cayman Islands and Guatemala. The 24-year-old forward has added valuable attacking depth to the Fort Lauderdale squad, making an appearance in the 2025/26 season opener and featuring in 13 matches during the club’s inaugural campaign. She finished her rookie year with four shots on target, three key passes, and a 75.4% passing accuracy.

Sutton United Women F.C. has extended their best wishes to Bermudian midfielder K’Shaela Burch Waldron as she heads off to represent her country in the crucial 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup Qualifying campaign.

The midfielder's selection comes as no surprise given her recent form with the Lions. Burch Waldron has been a key player for Sutton United in the London & South East Regional Football League Premier Division, showcasing both scoring ability and playmaking skill. She recently scored two crucial goals in the Adobe Women's FA Cup, including the match-winner in a 5-2 victory.

Just days ago, Burch Waldron was instrumental in a 3-0 league win for Sutton, delivering a perfect through ball to set up the opening goal.
