A day of contrasting weather at Jericho finished with a decisive victory for the UBCOB Ravens, who overcame Pacific Pride 36-9 in a hard-fought rugby fixture.
Despite the final scoreline suggesting a runaway victory, the match was keenly contested, particularly during long spells where the Pride applied considerable pressure.
Speaking after the game, Pacific Pride captain and flyhalf, Jamin Hodgkins, suggested the score did not fully reflect the nature of the contest. Hodgkins noted that possession and territory were only slightly favoured towards the Ravens, indicating a tight midfield battle.
The difference in the match came down to efficiency and physicality. The Pride suffered from slow starts in both halves and struggled with final passes that meant scoring opportunities went unfinished. Crucially, the difficulty in defending the physically larger Raven forwards contributed significantly to the eventual five-try deficit.
Despite the loss, the Pride showcased periods of excellent play. Captain Hodgkins managed the game effectively from the flyhalf position, while centre Liam Poulton proved to be a handful for the Ravens defence. At fullback, Glenn Roy posed a constant threat with dangerous counterattacks.
The standout performers for the Pride were in the engine room, with locks Jaiden John and Mason MacDonald being named joint men of the match in the forwards for their tireless effort.
