Bermuda National Mountain Bike Champion Robin Horsfield reflected on securing his second Ontario provincial championship, this time in cyclocross!
The event was a great way to bounce back for Horsfield, proving that a tough mountain bike season only motivated him further to find success in the mud and the snow of cyclocross.
Horsfield told www.islandstats.com, “The race was a lot of fun. It's the season ender here in Canada for cyclocross season, which is a discipline of cycling that runs from the fall. So it's usually in pretty cold, wet, muddy conditions, but definitely snow was a new one for me.
It was a fun season of racing cyclocross after having a tough season on the mountain bike, just with getting a lot of sickness and missing a lot of races, and overall, not having the season I trained and hoped for. It was nice to put some nice races together on the cyclocross bike and just get out there and have some fun. Put some good training in and it was good to show, show my fitness and where I'm at.
That last race, the one this weekend, was the Provincial Championships for Ontario here in Canada. And yeah, it was great to win that race, super super nice to have a provincial title. I had the mountain bike title last year. I unfortunately wasn't able to defend that this year just from the lack of racing. But it was great to get the cyclocross title at least. And yeah, it was a cool atmosphere, lots of snow, super gnarly terrain, very slippery on the corners, very fast in areas, and yeah, just had a great time out there on the bike.”
