Bermuda National Mountain Bike Champion secured his second Ontario provincial championship, this time in cyclocross!
In the most unlikely of stories Robin Horsfield, a Bermudian, took to the snowy cyclocross course at Albion Hills, Ontario to win the Ontario Provincial Championship, Albion Hills is the site of Horsfield's first elite men's Ontario Cup Mountain Bike podium about 7 years ago.
Horsfield, whose Mountain Bike season was basically eliminated in 2025 due to health complications, showed conclusively that he is now near the best form of his career.
"To me it's one of the best possible endings for this season because it is the definition of never giving up," says Mark Brown, Horsfield's long-time coach. "This past mountain bike season was largely taken from him - but here he is, a newbie to 'cross racing, and now the provincial champion."
"Robin had said that he was enjoying the lack of notoriety in his cross events - I'm afraid that's over now."
Horsfield, due to his lack of racing at the provincial level cyclocross level, was forced to line up near the back of the field. He immediately moved to third place in the first 400 meters before breaking away from the chase pack with Emilien Belzile (2024 Canada National Junior 'Cross Champion) by the end of the first kilometer. Horsfield towed Belzile around the course for three laps before breaking away and securing the victory with a decisive gap over second place Dan Souter as Belzile faded.
