Bermudian Paralympic athlete Jessica Lewis has successfully competed in the Women's 100 meters T53 final at the World Para Athletics Championships in New Delhi, India, securing a top-five finish against a world-class field.
Lewis, a four-time Paralympian and veteran of the World Championships, crossed the line in fifth place, recording a final time of 18.23 seconds.
The race was dominated by Switzerland’s Catherine Debrunner, who claimed the gold medal and set a blistering competition record time of 15.50 seconds. Debrunner, who has been in sensational form, managed to hold off strong challenges from competitors, including those from Turkey and the Chinese powerhouses, to take the top spot on the podium.
Lewis's fifth-place finish demonstrates her sustained ability to compete at the highest level of para athletics. The Bermudian champion will now turn her attention to the T53 Women's 400 meters, scheduled for later in the championships.
