Bermuda has been selected as the host nation for the 2028 ICC World Cup Americas Sub Regional Qualifiers next year, a major announcement for the island's cricket calendar. The news was confirmed today by the President of the Bermuda Cricket Board, Lloyd Smith.
The tournament, scheduled for next June, will see Bermuda competing on home soil against four other nations: The Bahamas, Brazil, Belize, and Panama.
Bermuda enters the qualifier with a formidable track record, having historically dominated the past ICC Americas Sub Regional tournaments. This strong performance has consistently seen the island nation advance to the final stages of the World Cup qualification process.
Hosting the tournament will provide the national team with the home advantage as they aim to continue their supremacy in the region and earn a place in the next phase of the 2028 ICC World Cup Qualifiers.
Smith stated, “I would like to express my immense pride and excitement regarding the announcement. This is a monumental achievement for the Bermuda Cricket Board and for our entire community.”
“We are incredibly grateful to ICC Americas for their confidence in our ability to host a world-class event. Hosting these qualifiers not only provides our national team with the advantage of playing on home soil but also allows us to showcase Bermuda as a premier sporting destination for cricket.”
“We look forward to welcoming the teams and their fans to our beautiful island.”
The tournament will feature a series of matches at the National Sports Centre, where the teams will compete for a chance to advance to the next stage of the qualification pathway for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2028.
The BCB will release further details of the match schedule, ticketing, and event logistics in the near future.
“You can be assured that we will keep you updated on all our initiatives. This tournament belongs to all of us as citizens and residents of Bermuda. We look forward to your support to showcase that Bermuda is another World!”
