North Village Rams 1 Devonshire Colts 2
The Bermuda Premier Division season has begun with a significant upset at Bernard’s Park, as Devonshire Colts defeated the reigning champions, the North Village Rams, with a hard-fought 2-1 victory.
The Colts, displaying early-season sharpness, drew first blood in the 20th minute. Following a free-kick, the ball was headed back into the middle of the box, and after an initial block, Teniko Eve reacted fastest to score the first goal of the 2025/2026 season, giving the Colts a deserved 1-0 lead heading into the break.
The visitors doubled their advantage 10 minutes into the second half. In the 55th minute, Elisha Darrell found space just inside the box and finished clinically from a tight angle, giving the Colts a comfortable 2-0 cushion.
The defending champions finally clawed a goal back in the 72nd minute, with veteran striker Jonte Smith heading home to halve the deficit. However, despite ramping up the pressure in the closing stages, the Rams could not find the all-important equalizer.
The match concluded in an aggressive manner, with a late flare-up between players from both sides. While observers noted the incident was little more than a skirmish, the late confrontation underscored the intense rivalry and passion on display as the domestic season gets underway.
The result is a major statement of intent from Devonshire Colts and a clear indication that the North Village Rams will face a stiff challenge to defend their title this season.
