The International Tennis Federation (ITF) has announced the draw for the 2026 World Group II Play-offs, and it presents a significant challenge for Bermuda. The island nation has been drawn to face Georgia in a home-or-away tie, scheduled for either 6-7 February or 7-8 February 2026. The home team will determine the specific dates.
This draw is a tough one for Bermuda, who will be up against a strong Georgian side that includes several players within the world's top 1000. Among them is Nikoloz Basilashvili, a player who once reached a career-high ranking of 16th in the world.
Basilashvili has demonstrated his class throughout the current season. He successfully navigated his way into the main draws of the Australian and French Opens and, most impressively, pulled off a major upset at Wimbledon by defeating the seventh seed, Lorenzo Musetti, in the first round. While he fell in the US Open Qualifiers, his victory over a top-seeded player highlights the formidable talent Bermuda will be facing.
The 2026 World Group II Play-offs will feature 52 nations competing in 26 ties. The winning nations from this round will advance to the World Group II ties in September, while the losing nations will compete in regional Group III events later in the year. The full lineup was confirmed following the conclusion of the 2025 World Group I and II ties, with the World Group II Play-offs featuring the 13 nations that lost their 2025 World Group II tie and 13 nations promoted from the 2025 Regional Group III events.
