Both Premier Division 40-Over Knockout Cup semi-finals ended in disappointing fashion, leaving the Bermuda Cricket Board with two peculiar results on a day marred by scheduling issues and bad weather.
The first semi-final, scheduled to take place at Lord's in St. David's between the St. David’s Cricket Club and Warwick Workmen’s Club, was abandoned without a ball bowled. Warwick Workmen's Club was unable to field a team, resulting in a walkover for St. David’s, who advanced to the final.
The second semi-final, between St. George’s Cricket Club and Somerset Cricket Club at the Somerset Cricket Club, was a dramatic affair. St. George's, batting first, were bowled out for a respectable total of 182. Jonte Smith was the top scorer for St. George's with 38, while Antonio Darrell was the pick of the Somerset bowlers, claiming three wickets for 47 runs.
However, the rain came down just as Somerset was preparing to begin their run chase. After a lengthy delay, the umpires deemed the wicket too wet to resume play, forcing the match to be decided by a coin toss. Somerset unfortunately called wrong, and St. George’s were awarded the victory, advancing to the final to face St. David's.
The final will now feature the League Champions, St. David’s Cricket Club, taking on the runners-up, St. George’s Cricket Club, at Lord’s in what promises to be a highly anticipated clash.
