A dominant performance by Jamaica saw them secure a 4-0 victory over Bermuda in their opening CONCACAF World Cup Qualifier at a packed Flora Duffy South Field Stadium. The visitors, who clearly controlled possession throughout the match, scored twice in each half to claim all three points.
Jamaica wasted no time asserting their dominance. Defender Damion Lowe, who recently signed with MLS club Houston Dynamo, found the back of the net from a set piece in the sixth minute to give the "Reggae Boyz" an early advantage. Jamaica kept the pressure on, and their efforts were rewarded in the 26th minute when the in-form Renaldo Cephas doubled their lead. The goal sent the visitors into the halftime break with a comfortable 2-0 cushion.
The second half was much the same story, with the Jamaican attack relentless. Their third goal came in the 58th minute from a powerful shot from outside the box by midfielder Kasey Palmer. The victory was sealed on the stroke of full time when substitute Shamar Nicholson rose high to meet a corner at the near post, beating Bermuda goalkeeper Dale Eve to make it 4-0.
The result is a difficult one for Bermuda, who were unable to find a way to break through a solid Jamaican defense. The "Gombey Warriors" will now have to regroup quickly as they prepare for their next qualifying match on the road.
