Challengers Warwick Workman’s Club have defied the odds and dethroned cup holders Somerset Bridge in the Final Round of the Western County Cup at White Hill Field, clinching a thrilling 11-run victory in a rain-affected match.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Warwick posted a respectable total of 187 before being bowled out. Their innings was anchored by a resilient 62-run fourth-wicket partnership between Delray Rawlins (33) and Zeri Tomlinson after an early collapse. Another late partnership of 49 runs between Luke Fulton and Ajani Lee pushed the total close to 200. Somerset Bridge’s bowling attack was led by Allan Douglas and Callum Mcintosh, who both claimed three wickets each.
A rain delay revised the target for Somerset Bridge to a seemingly achievable 91 runs from 24 overs. However, Warwick’s bowlers rose to the occasion. Led by the outstanding efforts of Malachi Jones, who took three wickets for just 16 runs, and Staphen Dill, who also claimed three wickets for 20 runs, they tore through the opposition's batting lineup.
Despite a valiant effort from top scorer Steven Bremar (20), Somerset Bridge were bowled out for just 80, falling 11 runs short of their revised target. The victory hands the Western County Cup to Warwick Workman’s Club after a dramatic final.
