The prestigious Iber Cup in Portugal reached its final group stage day, with two of Bermuda's LB Football Academy teams taking to the field. It proved to be a mixed day of results as they battled for knockout stage positions in one of the world’s premier youth football tournaments.
In the Boy's 2012 Group A, the LB Football Academy team faced a tough challenge against União Nogueirense FC B, ultimately going down 5-0. Despite the loss, the Bermudian youngsters finished a respectable second in their group, a testament to their earlier strong performances which included a 3-1 victory over URD Tires and a dominant 6-0 win against Tuks FC.
Meanwhile, in the Girls 2011 Group B, LB Football Academy secured a hard-fought draw in their final group match, battling to a 1-1 stalemate against PA Team Academy. Devi Samuels was the scorer for the Bermudian side, finding the back of the net in the 47th minute to level the score. This result means the girls concluded their group stage with a win, a loss, and a draw, showing resilience against strong international competition.
The conclusion of the group stage now sets the stage for the knockout rounds of the Iber Cup, where the LB Football Academy teams will look to continue their development and potentially make a deep run in the tournament.
