The Ker 50, Redwood, skippered by Beverly Yacht Club member Pike Severance, crossed the Marion Bermuda Race finish line off St. David's Head in Bermuda this morning at 7:13 am, with an elapsed sailing time of 4 day’s 18 hours 33 minutes, and 42 seconds.
In the light breeze, Redwood's strategy of chasing the wind, despite sailing a longer distance (704 total, whereas the rhumb line was 645 NM), enabled them to cross the line first.
Wednesday Night Sailing
The Wednesday Night Sailing Series continued its thrilling run on Race Day 11, with the waters of Hamilton Harbour and the Great Sound playing host to competitive yacht racing. Emerging victorious on corrected time was Airforce, demonstrating that the fastest boat across the line doesn't always claim the ultimate prize.
Crossfire was the first boat to physically cross the finish line, clocking an elapsed time of 1 hour, 1 minute, and 50 seconds (1:01:50). However, after handicaps were applied, their corrected time of 1 hour, 8 minutes, and 12 seconds (1:08:12) saw them finish fourth on the night.
It was Airforce that ultimately took line honours on corrected time. Crossing the line second with an elapsed time of 1 hour, 9 minutes, and 58 seconds (1:09:58), their superior corrected time of 1 hour, 6 minutes, and 13 seconds (1:06:13) secured them the well-deserved victory.
Passion also put in a strong performance, claiming third place with a corrected time of 1 hour, 7 minutes, and 45 seconds (1:07:45). Rounding out the top five on the night was Back in Black, finishing closely behind with a corrected time of 1 hour, 8 minutes, and 14 seconds (1:08:14).
The results from Race Day 11 further underscore the competitive nature of the Wednesday Night Sailing Series, where strategy and corrected time often dictate the final standings.
