Bermuda's archers were back in action at the CAC Qualifiers today, a prestigious world ranking tournament that is also serving as a qualification event for the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games. However, it proved to be a challenging day for the Bermudian teams in the elimination rounds.
In the Recurve Men CAC qualifiers Camerin Pickering, and Jaydon Roberts won their Second and Third Round matches, both advancing to the Quarter-Finals. In the Quarter-Finals Roberts went down to Oscar Ticas from El Salvador 6 - 0. Pickering defeated Ricardo Vasquez 6 - 0, to advance to the Semi-Finals on Sunday.
Robin Selley won her Second and Third Round matches, she then went down to Tatyana Muntyan from US Virgin Islands in the Quarter-Finals 6 - 4, Selley would finish in 6th place.
Elektra Smith finished in the 9th quartile and N’Dera Smith in the 17th quartile.
In the CAC Qualifiers Recurve Men’s Team First Round, the Bermuda trio of Camerin Pickering, Jaydon Roberts, and Robert O'Connor faced a formidable challenge from Puerto Rico. Despite their individual efforts, the Bermudian team went down 6-0 to the strong Puerto Rican lineup, which featured Adrian Munoz Rodriguez, Kelvin Ortiz, and Angel Gonzalez Reyes.
Similarly, in the CAC Qualifiers Women’s Recurve Team event, Bermuda's team of Robin Selley, Elektra Smith, and N'Dera Smith encountered a powerful Venezuelan squad. The Bermudian women also suffered a 6-0 defeat at the hands of their Venezuelan opponents, Daniela Jaramillo, Wuileimy Segovia, and Alexandra Cristancho.
While the team eliminations proved difficult, Bermuda's archers will take valuable experience from competing against some of the top talent in the Americas. The individual competitions continue, offering further opportunities for personal bests and strong performances as the Copa Merengue progresses.
