The Bermuda Under 23 Summer League season roared back into life last night at the BAA Field, treating fans to a captivating double-header that saw tight contests and shared spoils.
PHC Zebras 2 Somerset Eagles
The opening match of the evening pitted the PHC Zebras against the Somerset Eagles in a Group A battle, with the Zebras ultimately securing a narrow 2-1 victory.
It was Zakiyah Lee who broke the deadlock for the PHC Zebras in the 22nd minute, giving his side an early advantage. Just moments before the break, in the second minute of first-half stoppage time, Harlem Bean-Fox doubled the Zebras' lead, putting them in a strong position heading into the interval.
The Somerset Eagles, however, were not to be deterred. They found a lifeline in the 52nd minute when Zico Saltus skillfully found the back of the net, halving the deficit and setting up a tense final period. Despite their best efforts, the Eagles were unable to find an equaliser, and the PHC Zebras held on for a crucial three points.
Wolves 1 Dandy Town Hornets 1
The nightcap delivered another closely fought encounter, as Wolves and the Dandy Town Hornets played out a 1-1 draw in their Group B clash.
The first half proved to be a cagey affair, with both sides failing to break the deadlock, sending the teams into half-time with the score locked at 0-0.
The second half, however, saw the goals arrive. It was Torque Outerbridge who gave Wolves the lead in the 65th minute, igniting the contest. Their advantage was short-lived, though, as just three minutes later, the Dandy Town Hornets responded. Treazi Gibbons was the man on target, levelling the match at 1-1 and ensuring both teams left the BAA Field with a point apiece.
The results set the stage for an intriguing set of fixtures as the Bermuda Under 23 Summer League continues to unfold.
