Bermuda's Olympian Adriana Penruddocke and Olympic hopeful Sebastian Kempe continued their impressive ascent on Day Three of the North American Championships in Long Beach, California, both moving up the leaderboard in their respective ILCA fleets.
The regatta, held at the venue for the LA2028 Olympic Games, saw both Bermudian sailors showcase significant improvement in their performances.
In the ILCA6 Fleet, Adriana Penruddocke demonstrated remarkable consistency and skill, moving up seven more places from her Day Two position of 14th. She now sits in an impressive 7th place overall with 68 net points. Penruddocke had a stellar day on the water, recording two top-four finishes. She crossed the line 4th in the first race of the day, followed by a 31st-place finish (which will likely be her discard), before a strong 14th-place finish, and then she closed out with her second 4th-place finish of the day in the final race.
Meanwhile, in the ILCA7 fleet, Sebastian Kempe also made positive strides, moving up two spots to claim 10th place overall with 75 net points. His three races on the day saw him record three top-10 finishes. He achieved a fantastic 3rd-place finish in the first race of the day, followed by a 9th-place finish in race two, before finishing the final race of the day – the tenth of the series – in an excellent 6th place. This consistent performance at the sharp end of the fleet highlights Kempe's strong form.
Both Bermudian sailors are gaining invaluable experience at this high-level competition and future Olympic venue, bolstering their long-term Olympic aspirations. Their strong upward movement on the leaderboard indicates their growing competitiveness on the North American circuit.
