Oliver Betschart faced a challenging test at the USGA US Amateur Qualifier in Oklahoma, competing just a day after powerful thunderstorms swept through the region.
The qualifier took place amidst the aftermath of severe weather, which included hurricane-force wind gusts and large hail, and tragically resulted in at least one fatality. Following a morning of clean-up operations, junior golfers were eventually permitted to take to the course.
Betschart's round proved to be a demanding one, stretching to almost five hours. He ultimately found himself unsuccessful in securing one of the four coveted spots available to advance to the US Junior Amateur Championships.
The Bermudian golfer shot a 6-over par 76. His round consisted of one birdie, ten pars, and seven bogeys, reflecting the difficult playing conditions.
While the outcome might not have been what Betschart hoped for, competing in such a high-calibre event under challenging circumstances provides valuable experience. He will undoubtedly take lessons from this qualifier as he continues his development in junior golf.
