Strong Day One for Bermuda in Kitty Michael Invitational

IslandStats.com
The 45th annual Kitty Michael Golf Invitational has teed off at the El Conquistador Golf Club on the north tip of Puerto Rico, with Bermuda making a strong start in the international ladies' team event.

More than 100 amateur lady golfers are participating in the 54-hole competition, which was launched in 1979 to grow the women’s game, foster international friendships, and promote goodwill. Teams from across Central America, the Caribbean, and North America are expected to compete, including Panama, St. Croix, Curacao, Puerto Rico, as well as several US and Canadian clubs.

The Bermuda team is led by Captain Linda Down and Vice Captain Tracy Burgess, alongside Katrin Burnie, Liz Carpio, Carine Brule, Valerie Nearon, Angela Cook, Katyna Rabain, Lesley Wollmann, and Tracy Nash.

At the close of Day One, Bermuda finds themselves in a strong second place overall, currently sitting at +38. They are just three strokes behind the early leaders, Southwest Florida.

Individually, Bermuda's Vice Captain Tracy Burgess delivered a superb opening round, finishing tied at the top of the individual leaderboard. She recorded a 9-over par, putting her level with Jennifer Polich of Southwest Florida. Compatriot Carine Brule also impressed, placing tied for fifth at 12-over par.

Bermuda's strong start, particularly the individual performances of Burgess and Brule, sets them up well for the remaining two days of competition in this prestigious event, which was last played in Puerto Rico in 2014.
