Sunny skies and a building breeze greeted sailors on Day 3 of the 2025 Team Racing World Championship in Rhode Island, but the increasing wind strength ultimately led to the abandonment of racing for the day.
Despite promising conditions early on, by 12:30 pm racing was initially postponed as the wind continued to build. With gusts eventually reaching over 25 knots, the Race Committee made the decision to abandon all racing for the remainder of the day at 3:00 pm.
Before the conditions became too challenging, the Bermuda team managed to secure their second victory of the regatta, defeating Gamla Stans YS from Sweden. This win will provide a welcome boost to the Bermudian contingent, which includes Sophie Dias, Alan Frith, Trystan Hocking, Katrina Williams, Benn Smith, Meghan Sherwin, Julia Lines, and Jason Saints.
Race officials are now planning a busy schedule for tomorrow, aiming to complete the majority of the second round robin before moving into the elimination rounds of the championship.
Bermuda's current position in the standings means they face a difficult task to qualify for the finals. However, with favorable weather conditions anticipated for the final day of racing, they have three races remaining which are considered winnable. The team will be focused on maximizing their performance in these crucial encounters to try and climb the leaderboard and keep their hopes alive.
