Bermuda Break Duck at Team Racing World Championship

IslandStats.com
Day two of the 2025 Team Racing World Championship in Rhode Island delivered a thrilling day of action on Narragansett Bay, despite persistent heavy fog causing intermittent delays to the schedule.

However, thanks to the determined efforts of the Race Committee and a consistent southerly breeze in the mid-teens, significant progress was made on the race programme. Round Robin 1 was completed, and substantial headway was made in Round Robin 2.

After a challenging opening day, the Bermuda SA team finally got themselves on the leaderboard, securing their first victory of the championship. Crew member Katrina Williams acknowledged the significant improvements made by the team on day two.

"I think our boat speed is better and we had fewer boat handling errors which really freed us up to do more team racing," Williams explained. "We were really getting off the line well and kind of staying in the game; every race was a lot closer than the one before. We’re improving race by race, and I think our focus now needs to be on mark rounding's which are so tricky! We’re also communicating better about needing help from our other teammates but we’re really having fun, and today the conditions were great."

The Bermuda team's breakthrough win will undoubtedly provide a significant morale boost as they navigate the complexities of the team racing format. With improved boat speed and handling, they will be looking to build on this success as the championship progresses. The tricky mark roundings and communication will be key areas of focus as they aim to climb the leaderboard in the remaining races. The challenging conditions, with fog causing delays, tested the resilience of all the teams, but the consistent breeze allowed for plenty of exciting team racing action throughout the day.
