Bermuda's young sailing talent continued to impress at the Open Eastern National Championship Semi Finals Sailing Regatta, with Christian Ebbin securing a division win to propel Tulane University to the championship finals.
Day two of the prestigious event, hosted by St. Mary's College of Maryland in the United States, provided sailors with classic regatta conditions. East to northeasterly breezes ranging from 5 to 12 knots allowed for tactical and challenging racing on the water.
The intensity was particularly high in the B Division, where Bermuda's Christian Ebbin was representing Tulane University. Going into the final set of races in the B Division, a remarkable eight teams were realistically in contention for just five coveted berths in the championship finals.
Ebbin, demonstrating impressive skill and consistency, steered the Tulane B Class boat to a dominant performance. He ultimately won the B Division with a total of 47 points. This stellar individual showing was instrumental in Tulane University's overall performance, as they finished in an impressive 4th place overall, securing their spot in the highly anticipated championship finals.
However, it was a more challenging day for fellow Bermudian sailor Jordan Vieira, representing Eckerd College in the A Division. Despite battling hard in the favourable conditions, Vieira finished 16th in the A Division. Consequently, Eckerd College finished 16th overall as a team, narrowly missing out on advancing to the championship finals.
While Vieira will be disappointed not to progress, Ebbin's outstanding performance and Tulane's qualification for the finals mark a significant achievement for Bermudian sailing. His victory in the B Division highlights the talent and dedication of the island's young sailors on the international stage. Sailing enthusiasts back home will be eagerly following Ebbin's progress as he prepares for the championship finals.
