Race Day Seven of the popular Wednesday Night Sailing Series saw a strong fleet of 31 boats take to the waters of Hamilton Harbour last night, before venturing out into the Great Sound and returning.
The conditions provided a challenging yet enjoyable evening for the sailors, with the pursuit format ensuring close racing right to the finish line.
Nasty Medicine was the first boat to physically cross the finish line, clocking an elapsed time of 54 minutes and 40 seconds. However, after the application of their handicap, their corrected time of 59 minutes and 58 seconds placed them 12th overall on the night.
The second boat to cross the line was Airforce, who recorded an elapsed time of 57 minutes and 46 seconds. Their handicap proved advantageous, resulting in a corrected time of 54 minutes and 40 seconds, securing them the first place finish on the night.
The battle for the remaining top spots was tightly contested. Passion sailed well to claim second place with a corrected time of 56 minutes and 19 seconds. Just seconds behind them was Scatteraction, taking third place with a corrected time of 56 minutes and 36 seconds.
Menace also put in a strong performance, finishing in fourth place with a corrected time of 56 minutes and 39 seconds. Rounding out the top five finishers on the night was RS 21 #3, who recorded a corrected time of 56 minutes and 54 seconds.
The Wednesday Night Sailing Series continues to provide exciting midweek racing for the local sailing community, with the varying handicaps ensuring that boats of different classes can compete closely for the top honours each week.
