2025 Team Racing World Championship

IslandStats.com
Bermuda sailors are ready for the Team Racing World Championship Challenge in Rhode Island.

The picturesque Narragansett Bay in Rhode Island is set to be the stage for the 2025 Team Racing World Championship, with racing action commencing on Thursday, May 29th and continuing through Sunday, June 1st.

The sheltered waters between Rose Island and Goat Island are the likely battleground for the twelve teams vying for the prestigious world title. All onshore activities and events will be hosted at the esteemed New York Yacht Club Harbour Court in nearby Newport, Rhode Island.

The race schedule anticipates daily starts around 10 am, with competition expected to continue into the late afternoon, all subject to favourable weather conditions.

A truly international fleet will be competing, with twelve teams representing ten different nations. Alongside Bermuda, the countries sending teams are Argentina, the Bahamas, Great Britain, Greece, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Sweden, and the host nation, the United States.

Each team participating in this high-stakes event comprises between six and eight sailors. The regulations stipulate a minimum gender balance within each squad, requiring at least two female and two male sailors on every team.

Bermuda has assembled a talented team of eight sailors eager to make their mark on the world stage. The Bermudian contingent includes: Sophie Dias, Alan Frith, Trystan Hocking, Katrina Williams, Benn Smith, Meghan Sherwin, Julia Lines, and Jason Saints. This blend of experienced and emerging talent will be aiming to navigate the tactical complexities of team racing and challenge the international field.

The Team Racing World Championship is renowned for its strategic depth and the importance of seamless teamwork. Unlike fleet racing where individual performance is paramount, team racing sees teams of three boats competing against each other, with the combined finishing positions determining the winner of each race. Communication, tactical calls, and boat handling under pressure are crucial elements for success.

Bermuda's team will be looking to utilise their collective skills and experience to navigate the intricacies of the competition and secure a strong result against some of the world's best team racing nations. Sailing fans back home will be keenly following their progress on Narragansett Bay.
