Warwick Academy proved to be the dominant force in the Over-13 Division at the Middle School Badminton Tournament, held at Somersfield Academy, securing a clean sweep of the podium in the singles competition.
Miuchael Mohipp led the Warwick charge, defeating his teammate Thomas McBain in a tightly contested final. Mohipp secured the victory in straight games, winning 15-10, 15-10. The Bronze Medal also went to Warwick Academy, with Joshua Manning overcoming Shane Reardon from Saltus Grammar School in the third-place match, winning 15-6.
Earlier in the Semi-Finals, Mohipp had defeated Reardon 15-6, while McBain edged out Manning 15-12 in the other Semi-Final.
The dominance of Warwick Academy continued in the Over-13 Doubles tournament. Mohipp teamed up with Julian Hands, and the pair proved unstoppable, winning the tournament without dropping a single match. They finished the round-robin stage with a perfect 5-0 record.
The silver medal went to the Saltus Grammar School duo of Reardon and Dominic Wright, who finished with a strong 4-1 record. Warwick Academy secured another podium finish, with Thomas McBain and Benjamin Stones claiming the bronze medal after finishing the round robin with a 3-2 record.
The Under 13 Division saw Jithorn Liew emerge as the standout player, claiming victory in both the Singles and Doubles tournaments. In the singles final, Liew defeated his Somersfield Academy teammate James Bigley in straight games, winning 15-8. The third-place match was an all-Warwick Academy affair, with Dominic Slater overcoming Cayden Lee. Liew had earlier defeated Slater 15-9 in the Semi-Final, while Bigley edged out Lee in the other semi-final.
Liew and Bigley then teamed up to win the under-13 doubles tournament without losing a match. In the final, the Somersfield Academy pair defeated the Saltus duo of Charles Balderos and Joseph Yamine 15-4. In the semi-finals, Liew and Bigley overcame Warwick Academy teammates Praroop Srivastava and Colton Keans 15-7, while Balderos and Yamine progressed to the final after defeating the Warwick Academy pair of Caleb Mello and Austin Frank 15-11. Mello and Frank secured the bronze medal with a 15-6 victory over Srivastava and Keans.
The Middle School Badminton Tournament showcased the depth of young talent in Bermuda, with Warwick Academy proving to be a dominant force, particularly in the Over-13 Division, while Jithorn Liew's double victory highlighted his individual prowess in the Under-13 Age Group.
