Adriana Penruddocke IslandStats.com Bermuda's Olympic sailor Adriana Penruddocke and Olympic hopeful Sebastian Kempe have concluded their participation at the 2025 ILCA 6 Women's & ILCA 7 Men's World Championships in Qingdao, China, after a significant reduction in the racing schedule due to challenging weather conditions. What was initially planned as a five-day event was condensed into just two days of competition at the Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center.
In the ILCA 7 Men's fleet, Sebastian Kempe completed a total of five races and finished in 85th place overall with 99 net points. On the final day of racing, Kempe showed promising form, securing a 17th-place finish in the first race of the day, which was the third race of the entire series. He followed this up with a 19th-place finish in the subsequent race. However, Kempe did not compete in the final race of the day, bringing his championship to a close.
Meanwhile, in the ILCA 6 Women's fleet, Adriana Penruddocke also completed five races and finished in a creditable 33rd place overall with 79 net points. Penruddocke demonstrated her capabilities on the final day, sailing to a strong 10th-place finish in the first race of the day, which was the fourth race of the series. She then concluded her championship with another solid 10th-place finish in the final race of the day.
Despite the frustrating reduction in the racing schedule due to the weather, both Kempe and Penruddocke gained valuable experience competing against a world-class fleet in Qingdao. Their performances, particularly the strong finishes on the final day, will provide them with important insights as they continue their preparations for future international sailing events. The condensed nature of the championships will likely have tested the adaptability of all competitors.
