After a frustrating four-day wait due to weather conditions, Bermuda's Olympian Adriana Penruddocke and Olympic hopeful Sebastian Kempe have finally started their campaigns at the 2025 ILCA 6 Women's & ILCA 7 Men's World Championships, taking place at the Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center in China.
Both sailors were eager to get their competitions underway and faced challenging conditions as racing finally commenced in the ILCA 7 Men's and ILCA 6 Women's fleets.
In the Men's ILCA 7 fleet, Sebastian Kempe has completed two races. He currently sits in 99th place overall with 63 points accumulated. His individual race finishes were 37th and 26th, indicating a solid start to his world championship bid as he navigates a highly competitive fleet.
Meanwhile, in the ILCA 6 Women's fleet, Adriana Penruddocke has completed three races. She currently holds 51st position overall with a total of 77 points. Penruddocke's individual race finishes were 17th, 36th, and 22nd, showing a degree of consistency in the early stages of her world championship campaign.
Both Kempe and Penruddocke will be looking to build on these initial races as the championships progress in Qingdao. With several more races scheduled, they will be aiming to improve their overall standings and gain valuable experience on the international stage as they pursue their respective sailing goals. The delayed start will likely mean a condensed schedule in the coming days as the sailors look to make up for lost time.
