Dennico Hollis played a starring role as his LOC Hire Stenhousemuir Cricket Club teammates secured a convincing 57-run victory in their T20 league opener against Tunnuck's Uddingston in Scotland.
Stenhousemuir, batting first, posted a competitive total of 175 for 5 in their allotted 20 overs. Asad Izaz led the way with an impressive unbeaten knock of 57. Hollis contributed with the bat, adding a valuable 14 runs off 15 deliveries in the middle order, helping to build a strong platform for his side.
In reply, Stenhousemuir's bowling attack proved too formidable for Uddingston. Hollis spearheaded the bowling effort, delivering an exceptional two-over spell that yielded three wickets for a mere five runs. The highlight of his performance came in his very first over, as he dramatically claimed a hat-trick, effectively derailing Uddingston's chase early on. Stenhousemuir ultimately restricted Uddingston to 118 for 9 in their 20 overs, securing a comprehensive victory to kick off their T20 campaign in style, with Hollis undoubtedly the hero of the hour.
BCB Announce Cricket in Schools Partnership Program
The Bermuda Cricket Board (BCB) is pleased to announced the launch of the Cricket in Schools Partnership Program (CISPP).
The BCB announced RenaissanceRe and Skyport as sponsors. The support provided by the generous donation of RenaissanceRe for the RenaissanceRe Super 8 Festivals and Skyport for the Skyport Zone Leagues and Knock Out Cup will assist the BCB with offering coaching and other resources to schools that participate in competitive cricket competitions. The schools that participate in interschool cricket via the Department of Sport & Recreation (DOSR) cricket calendar, can contact the BCB to discuss proposed programming.
The CISPP will see student-athletes from all schools in Bermuda (Primary, Middle, and High School) participate in various events, ranging from the Super 8 Festivals, Zone League, and KO Cup Competitions. The BCB has been supporting various schools since 2023 and is currently offering our services to six academic institutions.
The BCB DOSR Super 8 Festivals will take place on May 19, 20, and 21, with interschool matches taking place from May to June.
A RenaissanceRe spokesperson said: “We are proud to sponsor the launch of the Cricket in Schools Partnership Program. Skyport President Aaron Adderley stated: "We are proud to support the development of Bermuda’s youth through sport. Cricket holds deep roots in our culture, and through this partnership, Skyport aims to ensure the next generation not only learns the game but embraces the discipline, confidence, and camaraderie it fosters.
Supporting cricket in schools is about building a stronger community and giving our young people every opportunity to thrive, on and off the field.” Cal Blankendal, BCB Executive Director, added: “On behalf of President Lloyd Smith, I wish to thank our support coaches and schools for collaborating to ensure that cricket remains a vibrant and successful part of Bermuda’s culture. The more visibility and activity we can add to the BSSF Cricket calendar, the more support we can provide to ensure we develop well-rounded student-athletes.
