MSA/BI Combine to Clinch Super 8s Cricket Crown
A combined Mount Saint Agnes Academy (MSA) and Bermuda Institute (BI) team emerged victorious in the Senior School Super 8’s Boy’s Cricket tournament, completing the round robin stage with an unblemished 3-0 record.
The decisive match saw the MSA/BI square off against a previously undefeated CedarBridge Academy in a winner-takes-all final encounter.
Batting first, the combined MSA/BI team posted a formidable total of 94 runs. Bermuda Institute's Isaiah O’Brien led the charge with an impressive undefeated knock of 43 runs, which included a flurry of five sixes and two fours. MSA's Sa-Qui Robinson provided valuable support, adding 32 runs to the tally after striking three sixes and a four.
In reply, CedarBridge Academy battled through their full allocation of overs but could only muster 59 runs. Kruz Iris top-scored for CedarBridge with 14 runs, while Ahjai Smith contributed 13 and Rydon Grant added 11. Ultimately, the combined strength of MSA and BI proved too much for CedarBridge.
Berkeley Institute Girls Secure Super 8s Title in Thriller
The Girls Division of the Super 8s tournament also provided excitement, with The Berkeley Institute clinching the title in a closely contested final against CedarBridge Academy.
Berkeley won the toss and opted to field first, sending CedarBridge into bat. The Devonshire school capitalized on extra runs and set Berkeley a target of 86 to chase. Jashay Trott led the CedarBridge innings with a valuable 21 runs, including a six and three fours, while J’Naz Richards chipped in with 10 runs.
The Berkeley Institute's chase went down to the wire, with Christia Lugo Elibox scoring the winning boundary with just two balls to spare in a tense final over. Keyandae Lighbourne led all scorers in the innings with a crucial 31 runs, which included one six and five fours, guiding Berkeley to a hard-fought victory.
