The Vasco da Gama Club and the Vasco Youth Program announced that Coach Leo Burgess will be joining the Vasco football family. At the same time, the Club will return to First Division Football in Bermuda. Burgess will assume technical responsibility for football in the Club, at both the Senior and Youth levels. He will also become the Head Coach of the Senior Football Team. Burgess is currently the Head of Academy & Technical Director of LB Football Academy Bermuda (“LBFA”). At LBFA, Burgess was able to develop young footballers and help them master their craft as individual players. There, they learn the fundamentals of the game through their signature ball mastery and tactical gameplay. His partnership with Vasco da Gama Club should see him bring consistency of style and technical development to all levels of football within the Club. As Head Coach of the Senior Football Team, Burgess will see the Club return to competitive football for the first time since 2021. As Technical Director of the Vasco Youth Program, Burgess will help a dedicated team of 16 coaches and 25 team managers develop 140+ young footballers. Vasco da Gama Club President, Richard Ambrosio, stated, “I look forward to welcoming Burgess and his team to Vasco da Gama Club. We have a rich footballing legacy, and I look forward to seeing him build on that legacy in order to put together a competitive and cohesive team.” Vasco Youth Program, Germano Botelho, added, “Burgess will be a fantastic addition to the VYP team. His academy should help to reinforce our coaching staff, while his technical direction will help my team and my focus on administering the program. Our partnership should hopefully allow the VYP to grow from strength to strength.” Burgess will outline a comprehensive development program that takes our footballers from the U5 age group seamlessly all the way to the senior team. Anyone interested in registering their child for youth football should contact the VYP at footballvasco@gmail.com.
