The Organizing Committee Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi is all set to provide excellent services to the thousands of spectators who will be thronging the venues for the Games. The Spectator Services team is all set up to meet its mission of making the paying fan’s visit to Delhi 2010 a memorable experience.

An estimated 1.7 million spectators with different categories of tickets are expected to visit the various stadia over 12 days. The Organizing Committee is geared up for the challenge of catering to their needs, Addl Director General (Spectator Services) Maj Gen G G Dwivedi said at a media briefing on Tuesday.

A workforce of 195 staff and 2650 volunteers will be at hand to help all spectators coming to Delhi, many of them for the first time. The core staff has a mix of experienced professionals and the youth, while volunteers who are primarily students, make it one of the largest Functional Areas.

As part of the preparation, the staff has gone through a process of formulation of operational plans for each venue and taking part in some test events to hone their skills. The Asian All-Star Athletics meet on July 29 saw 15,000 spectators being roped in to test the functioning of the teams.

“The prime mission of Spectator Services team is to provide memorable experience to the fans through flawless execution of its functions,” he said. “The Spectator Services team has three main responsibilities – Gate Management, Access Control and handling the Spectator Plaza and Seating Bowl. We are ready to handle these smoothly.”
