A select Caribbean Women’s team that included Anna Knapman-Scott from Police and Melissa DaPonte from Teachers put on an outstanding performance against the USA U20s, at one time taking an early 7 - 5 lead and holding them to 10-7 at half time.
Many anticipated the vastly superior North Americans to pile on the points, however taking heart and learning from their performance against Canada, the selects played with more confidence and a well organized defense that tackled hard throughout the game.
The determined Select defense prevented the USA from finding any fluidity, forcing them into early errors. Scrum half Gessner opened the scoring for the USA only for Lisa Fraser to level the scores for the selects. Collette Hopes successful conversion gave the Selects a surprise 7 - 5 lead which lasted well into the first half, until Siebach scored after 35 minutes. Half time: USA U20 10 Caribbean Selects 7.
In the second half, as the selects tired, the USA found more space and creativity and seconds tries for Siebach and Gessner and one each from Humphrys and Washington, provided the USA with a comfortable 30-7 final result. The Selects however, were the team of the day, which the local Bahamas crowd warmed to.
