A select Caribbean Women’s team that included Anna Knapman-Scott from Police and Melissa DaPonte from Teachers put up a determined display against Canada Women’s U20s, though superior fitness, skills and organization ensured that a victory for the North Americans was never in any doubt.
In a match that lasted 2 1/2 hours thanks to a tropical thunderstorm and lightening that halted the game for a considerable period of time, Canada opened the scoring with a try from McNally, followed by further tries in the first half from Willoughby, Jacobs and Moleschi and a conversion from Hunter to take a 22-0 half time lead.
Although not scoring in the game, strong tackling from the Caribbean Women and some opportune running when they secured the ball, allowed the Selects to keep in the match throughout and occasionally posing a serious threat to the Canada try line.
A second try for Willoughby and one each for Murphy-Burke and Smith, with Murphy-Burke landing 3 conversions, ensured Canada a comfortable 43-0 win.
