The Commonwealth Games Federation President Mr. Mike Fennel has said, “The Games are going on, and believe me, they are going to be very spectacular.” The CGF President said in an interview to the newspaper Jamaica Observer.
Mr. Fennel was satisfied with the preparations of the venues “I’m satisfied that they have done an excellent job with the venues... there’s still some work to be done, particularly with the monsoon rains that did some damage to some of the venues, but they have corrected that”.
The CGF president said that all reasonable measures are being taken for the security of the Games. Fennell said that most of the countries had left a recent security conference in Delhi feeling completely confident about the security arrangements. “If anything, they are concerned by a little too much security in some areas, where it will interfere with the free movement of people... we’re satisfied that we can say that all reasonable measures have been taken,” he said.
Fennell also disapproved reports circled in Indian media that the CGF had issued a 10 day deadline to the OC CWG Delhi 2010 to get things in order, ahead of his scheduled visit on 18 August 2010. He told the Jamaican newspaper that the visit was planned months in advance, and he has not issued any such deadline to the OC CWG Delhi 2010.
