IslandStats.com
Bermuda will be represented at the 5th Annual Junior Caribbean Cycling Championships by Dominique Mayho, Tre-shun Correia, Marquise Cann, Mark Godfrey and Hayley Evans in Aruba. Unfortunately Alex Godfrey is unable to travel, he is still recovering from a broken collarbone sustained in training 6 weeks ago

The 5th Annual Junior Caribbean Cycling Championships will consist of a Time trial – 18 kilometers for all categories. Road Race – 50 kilometers for Girls 15-18, 60 kilometers for Juvenile (Boys) 15-16, 80 kilometers for Junior (Boys) 17-18. There is also a team competition for the country with the best combined results in all categories and both disciplines.

14 countries will be represented by 79 riders at the event, including the traditionally strong cycling federations of Puerto Rico, Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados, Jamaica and Curacao.

Saturday, August 7 will be an 18 kilometer time trial along a fairly flat course. Sunday’s road race course is slightly hilly and will be laps of a 10 kilometer circuit. The Juvenile Boys (15-16) will do 6 laps, the Junior Boys (17-18) will complete 8 laps and the Girls (15-18) will race 5 laps.

In addition to the local participants, Bermuda will be involved in the event as the DeSilva family of Bermuda Timing Services have been engaged by the race organizers (Aruba Cycling Federation) to produce the official results of the race. This is the first time that BTS will be taking its high tech chip timing and finish line camera services overseas and the group of four will be led by Keith DeSilva who has been timing the Bermuda Bicycle Association’s road races and criteriums this year.
