Bermuda’s CAC Games Chef-de-Mission Donna Watson said, “This is my last correspondence from Puerto Rico as tonight is the closing ceremony and I will be departing with the Track, Tennis and Gymnastics Teams early tomorrow morning. Arantxa King will be carrying the flag for Bermuda.”
Watson continued, “I am please with the CAC Games Bermuda team as I feel we came out with a few unexpected medals than we thought, 5 medals. I also feel that we definitely lost 2 medals and possibly a third that we should have had and they were Aaron Evans and Kiera Atkins as they both went into their events after reaching the finals in medal contention, King also if she would have jumped at her best. Unfortunately due to miscommunication King got to her event late, nearly was not allowed to compete and never was able to get her run ups done before the event therefore she fouled 4 jumps and then 1 jump which placed her in the top six moving her into the finals. But these things happen and we have to move on from them and prepare for the next International event.”
“This is been an interesting experience for me and I am thankful for having been chosen as the Chief de Mission for these games. This was much more work than I or the BOA could have ever expected but I made it through. I am sure with hindsight there might have been a few things that we could have done different but again that is all in the learning experience. I enjoyed working with each of the team managers and I was able to get to every sport where Bermuda had competitors even with some of them being at least 2 1/2 hours away,” concluded Watson.
