After a hard training camp in Florida the 10 Member Bermuda team headed to Cuba for the 18th Caribbean Island Swimming Championship.

According to Roy Allan Burch, “Cuba have been gracious hosts and although the facility is old and needs some maintenance it is impressive with its 50 meter pool, 25 meter cool down pool and separate diving facility. The team was well prepared and ready to swim fast by the time the met started”.

Bermuda’s swimmers competed well in the 50m Butterfly and the 200 IM. Lisa Blackburn who is representing Bermuda for the first time in an international meet, continued her fine form from Bermuda Nationals.

Blackburn dropped 7 seconds from her fastest time so far this season to capture the Gold Medal in the 18 and over age group. Bermuda was again atop if the podium with Kiera Aitken winning the 100 Backstroke, while Rebecca Sharpe was hot on her heals taking the Silver.
